Monica」

First of all, i'm not here to criticize, but this article is misleading. Miss Ma and her husband's english isn't exactly right. All they want is to get publicity out of her book, and instead, they are making a fool out of themselves by illustrating some wrong examples.

Every country has it's own colloquial slang, it's nice if you can grasp the meaning, and before you try to use it, you'd better have a full comprehension and the extension of its meanings, if not, you'll be garbling like this Miss ma and her husband.

Out of league = not qualified to be in the league =不夠班 it carries a meaning of "not right for you ",........ totally an opposite meaning of this so-called scholar said it was 超班

「學生聽到『Cheers』以為是「乾杯」,但英國人卻普遍以此代替『Thank you』或『Goodbye』。」----Cheers has a meaning of "to be happier" or "a drinking toast ", in most english speaking countries, they'll use it in departure or to say it instead of "thanks", by no mean it can substitute the meaning of goodbye and thank you, it's merely a wish or a blessing ( be happy ) to that person.

    「以往到酒吧識女仔,開場白非『How do you do?』而是『How you doing?』,同樣在打招呼,後者卻帶有追求的意味。」
so if a nurse ask a patient "how're u doing ?" does that mean the nurse is after that patient ?? lol

To be honest, Miss Ma's english is a laughingstock, another disappointment in making so simple a mistake. How can you teach and help others while you're so wrong yourself !! Please...we don't need another so-called teacher like you here selling your books. You're misleading our children by garbling the meanings. Native english speakers use "how're you doing ?" and they speak so fast sometime the " 're " are swallowed. " How you doing " is never a correct sentence.

My opinion, we should learn proper english, and grammar and structure is the most fundamental. Although slangs can enhance mingling with foreigners, it isn't a must. Untill you can fully comprehend it, if not, you'll be making a fool out of yourself. Last but not least, there is never a shortcut in learning, like a structural building, grammar is the foundation, structure is cement linking up all the important beams. The stronger your foundation and better quality of your cement, you can build a skyscraper. Never settle for less and shortcut.
There's only one thing i agree with this article is 《屎爛英語》一書

Godspeed everyone, especially those who are eager to learn, use your critical thinking.

    其實香港學習語言的環境是最差的。本來溝通的語言是廣東話,何來要要求我們的英語能夠達到“鬼佬”的水平,普通話要達到“大陸佬”的水平。根本是無可能!
