Police have charged a transportation worker with the murder of Wong Ka- mui, 16, whose body was reportedly dismembered and her parts flushed down the toilet and others dumped at
However, police have yet to find the victim's remains though DNA taken from blood stains found in the suspect's flat matched those found in the girl's clothes at her home.
The girl had been reported missing since leaving her Tai Po home on April 27.
The 24-year-old suspect, surnamed Ting, had been arrested on Tuesday night together with another man, surnamed Au, who occasionally stays at Ting's apartment. Au was released on bail last night. Ting is expected to appear in Kowloon City Court today to be charged with one count of murder.
According to a police source, Ting had used the internet to hire a prostitute.
When Wong arrived at his subleased flat on the second floor of Yan Fat Building on Shek Kip Mei Street, they both took ketamine.
The police said Ting had confessed to killing Wong when they were both high on ketamine and after Wong had expressed a desire to die.
In his confession, Ting is said to have struck Wong with a chopper after she had said "I want to die."
Ting then allegedly chopped off her head and limbs and stripped off the flesh, some of which was flushed down the toilet and the rest dumped at Shek Kip Mei market.
The girl's head and limbs were allegedly weighted with bricks and thrown off Kowloon City Pier.
Earlier yesterday police and drainage services department officers searched the area around Yan Fat Building, questioning residents and checking the courtyard.
Commissioner of Police Tang King- shing said it was a "serious case" and that the police will do whatever they can to locate Wong's remains.
However, Wong's elder sister told The Standard's sister paper Sing Tao Daily that neither she nor her mother believed the girl was dead.
"She knows many men, from teenagers to those over 50, but I do not believe she has become a prostitute," Wong Yuen-ping, 19, said.
The two girls lived with their mother, 38, who came to Hong Kong from Hunan in 1994, and their stepfather, 64.
Their parents are unemployed and have recently divorced. The mother was planning to move out with the two girls before the incident.
A woman from a property agency on the ground floor of Yan Fat Building said Ting had rented the flat about six months ago for HK$2,300 a month.
