Inter have made the decision to fire head coach Gian Piero Gasperini following their disastrous start to the 2011-12 campaign. The Serie A giants have confirmed the tactician's departure on their official website.

The 53-year-old Gasperini replaced Leonardo as the man in charge at Giuseppe Meazza earlier this summer, but the former Genoa tactician failed to get things going at the Coppa Italia holders and has consequently been relieved of his duties.

Gasperini started his spell with Inter with a 2-1 Supercoppa Italiana loss against AC Milan before Palermo proved to be too strong in their Serie A opener (4-3).

A 1-0 home loss in the Champions League game against Trabzonspor last week added to Gasperini's misery and club president Massimo Moratti has now had enough after the scoreless draw versus Roma at the weekend and Tuesday's 3-1 loss against Novara.
