Introducing Myself-
I’m a purchasing officer with Modern Foods.
I’m responsible for finding new products for the company.
I establish and maintain relationships with our overseas clients.
It’s a pleasure to meet you, Dave. So you’re the one responsible for those outstanding sales figures I’ve seen.
May I introduce myself? I’m …..
I’m Peter Chan from ABC Company. Just call me Peter.
I’m Frankie Chan, but please call me Frank.
Meeting Someone New…
At Frankie’s dinner party:
John: Hello! My name’s John.
Paula: Nice to meet you, John. I’m Paula.
John: So, how do you know Frankie?
Paula: We went to school together. How about you?
John: We used to (1)work together in Vancouver.
Paula: Oh I see! So, you work in finance too?
John: No, I work as a legal consultant. What do you do (2), Paula?
Paula: I teach at a school in Kowloon Tong.
John: That’s interesting (3). Is it a primary school or a secondary school?
Paula: It’s a Secondary School. I teach Chemistry.
John: Really? (4) I was terrible at Chemistry when I was at school.
Paula: (laughs)
問別人做什麼工作時,除了用“What do you do?”外,也可說“What’s your job?” 、“What do you do for a living?”
其實,大家可以試試用 “That’s great!” 、“That’s cool!”、 “That sounds great!” 、“That sounds amazing!”
在此,大家也可用“Is that right?”、 “Oh yeah?” 、“Oh, I see.”等。
Where are you from?
Paula: By the way (順便說), where are you from?
John: Can’t you guess?
Paula: From your accent, I think you are either from Australia or New Zealand.
John: Well done. I’m from New Zealand.
Paula: Really? I don’t know much about New Zealand but it looks beautiful. I’d love to travel there but I haven’t got the time at the moment.
John: It’s a lovely place but very different from here. There aren’t cities like Hong Kong but we do have beautiful countryside.
Paula: Yea, that sounds amazing. (1) So, how long have you been here in Hong Kong?
John: I’ve been here in Hong Kong for almost two years now.
Paula: How do you like it? (2)
John: I love it here.
Paula: Really, you don’t find it too busy here? (3)
John: Sometimes I miss the quiet of home, but I’m almost used to it now. The weather is wonderful too, especially now in autumn.
註:
在此,大家也可用“That sounds impressive/ great/ wonderful/ interesting”等。
你覺得香港怎麼樣?」,也可以說“Do you like it?”、 “How do you find it?” 、“What do you like about it?”。
