Jada Pinkett Smith Says That She and Husband Will 'Never Had an Issue in the Bedroom'

Jada Pinkett Smith is peeling back the curtain once again on her 24-year marriage to Will Smith.

During a recent installment of her Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk, Jada — who was joined by Sex, Love & Goop star, Gwyneth Paltrow — discussed the importance of communication in the bedroom, especially for couples who have been together for a long time.

"It's hard. The thing Will and I talk about a lot is the journey. We started in this at a very young age, you know, 22 years old," said Jada. "That's why the accountability part really hit for me because I think you expect your partner to know [what you need], especially when it comes to sex. It's like, 'Well, if you love me, you should know. If you love me, you should read my mind.' That's a huge pitfall."

Jada, 50, concurred with Paltrow, 49, who said that when partners don't automatically know what the other wants in bed, it's easy to feel "crushed." The Gotham actress also said that she and Will, 53, work at openly expressing their expectations and desires to one another. "'You tell me what you need. Tell me what you want,' and on top of it, I know that I have to be accountable to do the same...I really try," she said. "It's uncomfortable, but it's deeply healthy, and I think around sex, because it's something that we don't talk about a lot, and there's so much fantasy around it."

Following the candid conversation with Paltrow, Jada took to Twitter on Wednesday to clarify the comments. "Only because I got time today. Stop making up headlines. Watch the @RedTableTalk I did with @GwynethPaltrow for yourselves. Will and I have NEVER had an issue in the bedroom. Thank you," she tweeted Wednesday.

Jada and Will tied the knot in 1997 and are parents to son Jaden, 23, and daughter Willow, 20. Will also shares son Trey, 28, with his ex, Sheree Zampino.

Jada has long been open about her relationship with Will. In July 2020, Jada revealed on Red Table Talk that she and Will were briefly separated when she had an "entanglement" with singer August Alsina in 2015. While Jada and Will did reconcile, she said of the experience, "We [her and Will] have really gotten to that new place of unconditional love." As for Will, he previously spoke to GQ in September about his relationship with Jada. "Jada never believed in conventional marriage. Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up," he said. "There were significant endless discussions about, 'What is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple?' And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection."

The King Richard star continued to GQ: "We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can't be a prison. And I don't suggest our road for anybody. I don't suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we've given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love."
